The moon was born from his mind. The sun was born from his eye. From his mouth came Indra, god of thunder, and Agni, god of fire. And from his breath, the wind was born.

Reflection

Now the sky itself comes from Puruṣa's body. And every match makes a kind of sense. The moon, which grows and shrinks, comes from the mind, which also keeps changing. The sun comes from the eye; after all, we see by sunlight. Fire comes from the mouth, where words leap out like flames. And the wind comes from breath. Try it: breathe out slowly. That is a little wind. The rishi is telling us that we are made of the same stuff as the universe. Your mind and the moon. Your eyes and the sun. Your breath and the wind. They are connected.
